New Network Printing Solutions Made by SEH at CeBIT 2007
SEH connects non-network enabled USB output devices with UTN function to a network
Bielefeld, February 20, 2007. – At this year’s CeBIT network specialist SEH presents several new solutions for network printing. A new software update for USB print servers of the SEH print server series “PS” makes USB output devices such as GDI printers and multifunctional peripherals (MFP) available to several users in a network. Most of these devices are not network-enabled. Also, SEH will show two new hardware solutions: One is the ThinPrint Gateway TPG120, adding a solution for connecting twelve printers to the SEH solution portfolio for ThinPrint environments. The other is the WLAN print server PS113 which SEH developed especially for Citizen POS (point of sale) printers. SEH presents these solutions, which will be available in the second quarter of 2007, at this year’s CeBIT in Hall 1, booth A34/1, from March 15 to 21st.
A software update for the USB print servers PS03a, PS23a, PS34a, PS34a-PoE, and PS54a-G by SEH makes non-network enabled GDI printers and MFPs available to several users on a network. GDI printers are low priced USB printers equipped with the Windows interface GDI (Graphic Device Interface). GDI printers and MFPs do not have a processor, have very little memory at their disposal, and communicate exclusively via proprietary printer languages. Thus, they can only be used as single work station printers connected locally to a Windows PC. These devices have to access this PC, which has installed the required printer driver, for processing print data.
GDI Printers and Low End MFPs for Workgroups
The new SEH software update features the new function USB to Network (UTN). This allows users to install a GDI printer or MFP on their PC and access it like a network printer. Users can access all MFP functions (Print, Scan, and Copy). Several functions simplify the use of such devices in workgroups. Connect on Demand, for example, establishes a connection between a user and the output device only for the time it takes to process a print job, scan or copy. UTN is compatible to Windows operating systems from Windows 2000 upwards. During the second quarter of this year it will be available as a free download from the SEH website www.seh.de.
New ThinPrint Gateway TPG120
At this year’s CeBIT SEH presents the ThinPrint Gateway TPG120. In server based computing with ThinPrint technology, this device connects up to twelve printers to the network. The chassis and functional range of TPG120 are identical to those of TPG60, the SEH ThinPrint gateway for up to six network printers which has been available since October 2005. The TPG120 closes the gap between TPG60 and the SEH Intelligent Spooling Device which functions as ThinPrint Gateway for up to 50 printers. The core of the TPG120 is the ThinPrint .print Client v7.x for bandwidth optimized network printing. This enables the device to support ThinPrint SSL encryption as well as functions such as ThinPrint AutoConnect and Connection Services for the seamless integration and administration in ThinPrint environments.
WLAN Print Server PS113 for Citizen POS Printers
The new print server PS113 results from the continued cooperation of SEH and Citizen Systems, one of the leading vendors worldwide of special printers for the strongly growing POS market. The internal, IPv6-enabled SEH print server PS113 connects the line thermal printer series Citizen CT-S300, CT-S2000, CT-S4000, the line thermal kiosk units PPU-700, and the impact dot matrix printer series Citizen CD-S500 to Wireless LANs based on the standard 802.11g. These printers target retail trade, logistics, warehouse management, and the restaurant and catering industry.
Secure Network Printing Made by SEH
At this year’s CeBIT SEH will also focus on solutions for secure network printing. This includes the most comprehensive portfolio of fiber-to-the-desk (FTTD) print servers for connecting output devices directly to eavesdropping secure fiber networks. All SEH print servers are equipped with encompassing security features, such as several authentication methods according to the IEEE standard 802.1x (Cisco LEAP, EAP-MD5, EAP-TLS), encryption (TLS, SSL), and access control. Visitors with strict demands regarding eavesdropping security and data protection, such as intelligence institutions and government organizations, can learn about this in detail at the SEH booth.
