KCU Serves Growing Field Online
- LOUISVILLE, KY, July 09, 2006 - Kentucky Christian University"s newest degree program is a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. It"s also its largest, reflecting the national trend of expanding healthcare services and jobs.
"It"s been very encouraging to see it grow," said Dr. Jeff Metcalf, Vice President of Academic Affairs at KCU (www.kcu.edu). Observing this continued popularity, the school decided the nursing degree program would be its first foray into fully-online degrees.
From its rural campus, KCU"s nursing program is one of few in Eastern Kentucky. The distance education format will make the degree readily accessible to nurses throughout the area, without necessitating a long commute.
"There are so many registered nurses out there that have a two-year degree, but want to complete a four-year," Dr. Metcalf said. To do so while carrying out the responsibilities of their demanding jobs is an admirable feat, and one accommodated by the flexibility of online learning. Initial distance courses will begin this fall, with the entire program"s launch this spring.
KCU has employed Learning House, Inc. (www.learninghouse.com) to design and implement the nursing program. Dr. Metcalf said that the nursing professors are "very positive," and looking forward to beginning the new program.
