- Herbert Abel (present COO) takes over
expansion of US business
Schwandorf, April 17th, 2007. Dr. Guido Zimmermann was appointed by the Supervisory Board to be a member of the Management Board (COO) of Schmack Biogas AG starting on 1 May 2007. Dr. Zimmermann will be responsible for the division business operations, and in particular for project planning and construction, as well as for commissioning and service. Herbert Abel will leave the Management Board one month later and will in future work directly in the USA to expand the activities of the Schmack Biogas Group in that market.
Dr. Zimmermann (42) was most recently a member of the management at Bilfinger Berger Industrial Services AG, previously Rheinhold & Mahla AG, Munich. Dr. Zimmermann has worked since April 2005 at this subgroup of Bilfinger Berger AG, which acts as a service provider to the power plant, refinery, petrochemicals and chemicals industries and most recently reported a gross performance of over Euro 1.3 billion with a total of 14,500 employees. He was responsible at this company for the overall operative industrial business, including all affiliated subsidiaries in Western Europe, as well as for developing and expanding the company’s market position, notably also by means of M&A transactions. An industrial engineer, Dr. Zimmermann previously worked at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and as a member of the management board of MVS AG.
“In Dr. Zimmermann we have found the right man for our Management Board team, a manager who can structure and lead Schmack Biogas AG in a way which enables our future growth to be successfully implemented in organizational and structural terms”, commented Ulrich Schmack, Spokesman of the Management Board of Schmack Biogas AG. “I am equally pleased that Herbert Abel, a long-term companion and colleague on the Management Board, will now be promoting our US presence in person. The fact that he will now be channeling his longstanding experience of the USA into the development and expansion of our activities on location is a reflection of the great attractiveness the American market holds for the biogas industry. Our aim is to increasingly exploit this potential via our shareholding in Schmack Bio-Energy and Herbert Abel’s expertise.”
